“It does more than tell the story of this small US State; it captures the very essence of surfing and what makes the friends we meet through it so special”

- London Surf Film Festival

Despite growing up in Concord, New Hampshire, Ryan and Dylan didn’t realize people surfed in NH until the summer of 2007. With only 13.5 miles of coastline, it was never on their radar. When they finally went to the coast to surf, they were surprised to find a vibrant and prolific community of surfers.

Since that day, we have been fascinated by these people and their deep passion. We immersed ourselves into the community and realized there was much more depth and complexity than we anticipated. A one-year project ballooned into a three-year project, but the community deserved the extra time and effort.

While working on the feature, we made 26 short films that focused on specific people, events, or seasons. Two of those shorts, New England Blood and Salmon Theory, toured at film festivals around the world and Salmon Theory was featured on The Atlantic.

On May 3rd, we premiered the feature film in Portsmouth, NH to a packed local crowd. That night felt like a true celebration of the community and it remains one of our proudest accomplishments as filmmakers.

The film went on to tour festivals around the world and was awarded “Best NH Short Documentary” at the 2014 New Hampshire Film Festival and Honorable Mention at the 2014 San Diego Surf Film Festival. That year we were also honored with “NH Filmmaker of the Year” at the New Hampshire Film Festival for our work on this project.
